Foundation Stone
Sir Henry Parkes laid the foundation Stone in 1887 after the Community raised the funds and acquired some Government funds to establish the first District Hospital in Cootamundra. The stone is unimpressive and only contains the year of its placement. It is reported that Parkes place in a cavity a jar with a hand written messages but it is unknown whether it still remains in it burial place.
Opened 29 August 1889
The Governor of New South Wales Lord Carrington opened the Hospital. The Cootamundra Herald records the event can be read in the Cootamundra Library on microfiche.
Closed
The Hospital was closed by the middle of the 1890s as unsuitable. It was too far out of town, nearly 2 miles or 3 kilometers, across a rail crossing and uphill
