The Home as it was for may decades

Isolation and Infants to 4 to 5 years dormitory.

Note the box room it was fully enclosed and used at times as a punishment area.

The box room was originally a veranda of the Hospital and the Sowing Room was the original toilets of the Hospital.

The Long Room was the area that the six to 11 year olds were housed.  It was the original front of the Hospital and a veranda that was enclosed and widen to allow for two rows of beds to be located.  As can be seen there was a direct entrance from the Matron's quarters into the area (see left).  The children, now adults, often talk about how they climbed out the windows to raid the orchard to stop the pangs of hunger.

The main dormitory was the Old Hospital General Ward.  It was the accommodation for the girls before they were sent into employment.  At one end it had an open fireplace and at the other end an entrance into the Matron's Quarters.
