Mission Statement

E.A Southee Public School is here to serve its students, their parents, the staff and the Cootamundra Community.

We are committed to providing a quality education by establishing a stimulating learning environment where children feel secure and people of worth.

Our Belief is that learning best occurs when staff and parents share common expectations for the children.

Parents will be given every opportunity to share in the life of the school.

 

Physical Environment

The school is set in a spacious and beautiful landscaped three hectare block.  The buildings are modern in design and provide a stimulating learning environment.
Features:

  • All twelve classrooms and the library carpeted.

  • Natural gas heaters installed in all rooms.

  • Air-conditioning in several classrooms.

  • Sports oval with multi-purpose football posts, cricket pitch and cricket practice net.

  • Grassy playing fields, basketball court, practice wall, multipurpose concrete area.

  • Adventure playground and gymnastic equipment.

  • A large versatile hall for assemblies, indoor games, socials, displays etc.

  • A large covered outdoor learning area.

  • An attractive library with over 10,000 resource items.  All students have regular, supervised access to the library.

 

Educational Programs

The school offers a wide range of educational programs in all key learning areas.

  • A priority is to provide a thorough grounding in the basic skills of Reading, Writing and Mathematics.
     

  • We attempt to cater for individual differences by providing additional support to children who may be experiencing learning difficulties and presenting enrichment activities for gifted and talented students.

 

Excursions

Excursions play an important role in providing students with practical and social experiences outside the classroom.
Major Excursions are as follows:
Year 3 - Canberra (1 Day)
Year 4 - Western Plains Zoo, Dubbo Goal (2 Days)
Year 5 - Sovereign Hill, Ballarat (3 Days)
Year 6 - Broken Bay (5 Days) Canberra (1 Day)

Computers

Our students benefit by having access to a computer laboratory to complement their class work and learning.
The school's computer education coordinator is known throughout the region for his expertise.

 

 

Physical Education and Sport

The skills, fitness and sportsmanship of students are developed through P.E. classes, daily fitness activities and Friday sports afternoons.
More able students are chosen to represent the school in a variety of sports and to participate in Regional selection trials.
Sports played at E.A. Southee Public School include Netball, Basketball, Rugby League, Soccer, Australian Rules, Cricket, Swimming, Athletics, Cross Country Running and Tennis.
